Answers to common Screen Printing questions

What is the minimum order quantity for screen printing?

At Goteez, our minimum order for custom screen printing is 24 pieces per design. Screen printing is a setup-intensive process — screens are made for each color in your design, so larger quantities are where you see the best price per unit. That said, we work with everything from small team orders to large corporate runs. If you're searching for a screen printing company that can handle both small batches and bulk orders, we've got you covered. Have a quantity in mind? Get a free quote and we'll find the right fit.

How much does custom screen printing cost?

Custom screen printing pricing depends on four main factors: quantity, number of print colors, print locations, and garment selection. Generally, the more units you order, the lower your cost per piece. A one-color front print on a standard tee for a group of 50 will run significantly less per shirt than a full-color, two-sided print on a premium blank.
At Goteez, we're transparent with pricing — no hidden fees, no surprise setup charges buried in the invoice. We're one of the most trusted screen printing companies in the Knoxville and East Tennessee area because we give you a real quote upfront. Request a quote and we'll break it all down for you.

What file format do I need to submit my artwork?

For the best print quality, we prefer vector files which include AI, EPS, or PDF formats from Adobe Illustrator are ideal. Vector files scale to any size without losing quality, which is critical for the best results for screen printing.
We also accept high-resolution raster files (PNG or PSD) at 150 - 300 DPI or higher at print size. If your file doesn't meet specs, our in-house design team can help prep or redraw your artwork. Don't have a finished design at all? Not a problem! As a full-service screen printing company near Knoxville, TN, we handle artwork from start to finish.

How many colors can I print on a shirt?

Screen printing supports 1 to 8+ spot colors per design. Each color requires its own screen, which is why color count affects setup cost. For most custom apparel orders, a 1 to 4 color design hits the sweet spot between looking great and budget friendly.
If your design has gradients, photographic elements, or dozens of colors, we may recommend simulated process printing or discuss whether DTG (direct-to-garment) printing might be a better fit for that specific project. Our team will always recommend the right method for your artwork, not just the most expensive one.

What's the difference between screen printing and direct-to-garment (DTG) printing?

Screen printing uses ink pushed through a mesh screen onto the fabric. It produces vibrant, durable prints and is the most cost-effective method for orders of 24+ pieces with limited colors. The ink sits on top of the garment and delivers a bold, long-lasting result.
DTG printing uses an inkjet-style printer to apply ink directly into the fabric fibers. It's best for small quantities (1–23 pieces) or designs with photographic complexity and many colors. Quality is excellent on 100% cotton but varies on blended fabrics.
As a full-service screen printing company serving Knoxville, Alcoa, Maryville, and surrounding East Tennessee communities, Goteez helps you choose the right method based on your artwork, quantity, and budget.

How long does it take to get my order?

Our standard turnaround for custom screen printing is 7–10 business days from artwork approval. That clock starts once you've signed off on your mockup, not when you place the order, so having your artwork ready and responding to proofs quickly keeps things moving.
Rush turnaround options are available (see question 10). If you have a hard event date or deadline, tell us upfront and we'll work backward from there. We serve clients across Knoxville, Maryville, Alcoa, Oak Ridge, and the greater East Tennessee area. Local customers can also arrange pickup to save shipping time.

Can you print on items I provide, or do I have to order blanks through you?

We primarily print on blanks sourced through Goteez to ensure consistent quality and post-care reliability. Our inventory includes hundreds of styles across top brands like Gildan, Bella+Canvas, Next Level, Port & Company, and more .
In select cases, we may be able to print on customer-supplied garments. Contact us to learn more because there may be additional requirements depending on fabric content and garment condition. As one of the leading screen printing companies in the Knoxville area, we want to make sure every print we put our name on meets our quality standard.

Can you help create a custom T-shirt design?

Absolutely! Our in-house design team can take your idea from concept to print-ready artwork while making it look better than you imaged. Whether you have a rough sketch, a written description, or just an idea, we'll build something you're proud to wear.
Design fees vary based on complexity and are quoted upfront. Many customers come to Goteez specifically because we offer end-to-end service. If you're looking for a screen printing company near Knoxville that handles design and production under one roof, that's exactly what we do.

Will the print crack or fade after washing?

When cared for properly, high-quality screen printing is extremely durable. We're talking years of washes without significant cracking or fading. The key factors are ink quality, proper curing during production, and following care instructions.
We recommend washing custom screen printed apparel inside out in cold water and tumble drying on low or hang drying. Avoid bleach and high-heat dryer cycles. At Goteez, we use premium plastisol and water-based inks combined with proper curing processes on every order. This ensures the prints hold up the way they should. If you've had bad experiences with cheap, cracked prints from other screen printing companies, you'll notice the difference immediately with GoTeez.

Do you offer rush turnaround?

Yes. If you're up against a tight deadline, reach out as early as possible and we'll let you know what's achievable. Rush orders are accommodated based on current production capacity and may carry an additional fee.
The earlier you contact us, the more options we have. Last-minute orders are possible but not guaranteed, especially during peak seasons like spring graduations, summer events, and fall sports. If you're a local business, organization, or team in the Knoxville or East Tennessee area needing custom screen printing fast, give us a call or request a rush quote and we'll do everything we can to make it happen.
